EDD hosts Film Appreciation Events
June 2, 2009
On June 2, 2009 the Maple Ridge Film Liaison office held a series of workshops to celebrate the importance of film production to our economy and to encourage growth in the industry. Film is BIG business in BC. In 2008 motion picture spending in BC was $1.2 billion, and increase of more than $250 million over 2007. There are an estimated 1,000 Maple Ridge residents involved in the industry; and the economic benefit for each day of filming here is conservatively pegged at $10,000. Morning workshops that covered topics of how to become an extra and how to register your location with the BC Film Commission were attended by close to 100 participants. Watch for details of a follow-up event planned for this fall that will showcase local talent, industry insiders and show some of the great work that has been shot locally. For details contact the Film Production Liaison office at 604-467-7320.
