The Economic Development Department can assist people wishing to start, expand, purchase or sell a business. Call 604-467-7320 to book an appointment to discuss process and procedures to be aware of regarding the type of business or market niche you are interested in.

The Economic Development Department can also provide assistance to those wishing to purchase or lease a business.  Please contact the office for more information.

Here are some basic first steps to follow:

• Confirm that zoning covers appropriate use or type of business application. Each space in a building has its own specifically approved use. The use of that space cannot be changed without approval and/or permits.
• Check the building permit application requirements for different uses such as retail, office, restaurant, manufacturing, beauty salon, or a home based business
• Find out the appropriate licensing and inspection requirements

• Check the fire regulations - inspections required by Fire Prevention Officer
• Check the Health Department regulations - inspections required for various establishments selling food and cigarettes, beer and wire stores, or daycares.
